In the state of alabama is there a limit on how much a landlord can increase the rent or does he/she have total discretion
State/Country of Question: Alabama Already Tried: I read the alabama tenant handbook, but it does not address this issue. My landlord told me today that he was going to raise my rent from $500.00 to $700.00. I have never had such a dramatic increase it has usually not been more than 6% at any one time.
Hello -Thank you for contacting JustAnswer. As long as there is a written agreement, the landlord can not increase the rent. When the agreement ends, the landlord may raise the rent and charge as much as they would like. They own the property and can do with it as they please. If my answer was helpful, please click ACCEPT so i may be compensated for my time.
