I just recently repossed a comercial vehicle in the state of GA. The person that was operating the vehicle was leased on to another company which installed a computer and a satellite tracking device in my truck. After I took the vehicle the company's lawyer contacted me and said that his client had personal property (computer) in the vehicle and that I had to return it. My question is that if this equipment is installed and or attached to my vehicle can they consider it personal property, and if not do I have to return it?
State/Country of Question: Georgia Already Tried: I have tried looking up the laws regarding repossesion and found some info regarding personal property which stated that I could actually place a lein on that property for resonalbe charges?

If the device is permanently installed, it is no removable personal property and is part of the vehicle. You will have to examine the device. If the device simply unplugs, then arguably this is personal property. If the device is attached to the vehicle, then it is not removable personal property. You will want to respond to the letter identifying whether the property is attached. For example, radios, tuners, and antennas are typically attached in such a way as to become part of the vehicle. These would not be removable personal property.

Thank you

Please click on the ACCEPT button for my answer so that I receive credit for assisting you. The computer keyboard is attached to a brackett that is mounted (screwed) onto my dashboard and the wires run into my dashboard. The sattelite is mounted in the rear of the truck on the outside. They als wanted a decal (IFTA sticker) that's on the outside of the truck?
The computer and keyboard appear to be permanently attached. The decal will depend on whether it can be removed. Decals are not typically removable.
The computer keyboard is pysically wired into the trucks computer system and there is a separate control thats mounted into my dash also that controls the keyboard. It's not just plugged into a power source, it's actually wired into the trucks computer...
That appears to be permanently attached. This information should be sent in response to the letter. Be specific in describing how it is permanently attached.
