If I carry a folding knife with a blade length greater than 3" in my pocket am I violating a concealed weapons (or any other) law in Illinois?
Optional Information: State/Country of Question: Illinois
Yes, if the blade is 3 inches or more it is considered a weapon. The have it in your pocket would be concealment.
And if its the "pocket clip" type that extends outside the pocket slightly, is that still illegal with a blade length over 3"?
No it is not, it is still considered a concealed weapon.
Are kinives with blade lengths >3" legal to carry if carried in plain sight, as with a sheath worn outside the clothing?
Illinois law does not address carrying a knife in the open (i.e. not concealed). Therefore the conclusion is that this is not illegal. However, an "automatic knife" (i.e. switchblade) is illegal to carry on your person period if the blade is longer than 3 inches.
Experience: Negotiate, Draft, and Review many complex commercial agreements each year.
If the blade is 3" (exactly) is the knife considered a concealed weapon?
