I bought a dog and when I moved I couldn't take the dog with me. I left the dog in the care of my grandmother. Since then my grandmother has breed the dog and she has had 3 puppies. Since my grandmother was so attached to the dog I told her she could keep the dog if I could have a puppy. My grandmother agreed to this at the time but since then has decided that she does not want to give me a puppy or the dog I purchased. My question is what may I do legally to aquire my dog and do I have a right to the puppies?

DearCustomer- This would all have to be based on a verbal agreement with your grandmother. If the agreement was that she was just keeping the dog until you could care for it then the dog is still yours. The puppies would also all belong to you since you owned the dog.
In order to get your property you will have to sue your grandmother for replevin of the property or, in the alternative, for the value of the property.
Pets are considered as personal property under the law so you have to sue based on that fact. You can probably sue your grandmother in Small Claims court since I cannot imagine the cost of the dog was more than the jurisdictional limits of the court.
