I live in Ohio. I have been dating a girl for a year and six months. This girl has a daughter with another man. She has been legally separate from the man for nearly two years, but she is not officially divorced. I am in the process of building a new home on some land that I own. The land and the house are in my name. All of the possessions inside the house also belong to me. Once the house is finished I plan to ask her to move in with me. If she does move in with me and things do not work out between her and I, is she entitled to my land, house, or any aspect of my property, purchased by only me? Do the circumstances change based on the amount of time that she lives with me?

Good morning,I'm sorry to hear of your dilemma. You have no problems. To the extent that you own the home and personal property, it is and will remain your separate property. Even if you were to marry this girl, the property would remain yours--even in a divorce.Even if she lived with you for 20 years, she would still not be entitled to anything that you owned and paid for.I wish you well.
