Resolved Question:

Suppose you deliver your antique car to a friend who is going to perform some restoration work—gratis—and return it to you. There is no contract. What have you and your friend created with respect to the car and what are your friend's duties relative to the car while it is in his possession?

It is called a bailment which is created when you leave property with another who is to perform some service on it. Common example - leaving clothes at a dry cleaner. The bailee...the friend here...has a duty to exercise reasonable care to protect the item from damage while it is in his possession and to return it to the bailor in the same condition as it was when delivered as enhanced by the services that the bailee performed on the property.
