How do you declare someone legally dead, in the state of Virginia who is no longer a family member?

DearCustomer

Is the person missing? If so, for how long?

Has the person's body or death been found or recorded?

Customer: replied 9 years ago.
The person is missing. I have made many attempts to locate this person, all unsuccesful. Missing/no comtact since 2000.

DearCustomer

The process of declaring a person dead is normally handled by the probate court of the county or district where that person lived. The Virginia statutes can be read at the Virginia Legislature's website - http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+TOC64010000005000000000000

You can speak to an attorney in VA or contact the appropriate probate court for information on what forms to file and how to make the filing to the court.
