It depends on a number of factors according to Children and Family Services. If the child is under the age of 16 then they can be left alone for as much as 6-8 hours without concern from CFS. Children under the age of 13-14 start to raise the eyebrows of CFS. Children under the age of 10 will have them at your door.
Even a child as young as 17 left for periods of 24 hours will alert them to concern.
Each case is different depending on the actual age of the child.
I would expect that you would not leave a minor child by themselves (14-17) for more then 4 hours.
I would not even think of leaving one at the ages of 1-12 by themselves for a full work day.
