showpig walking stiff legged not really a limp and a big dip in back where the loin area starts just in front of hip no heat in hock area
Hi, I'm Dr Steve.
Fromwhat you are describing, this could be a pinched nerve in the back or possibly a prolapsed disc in theback causing injury to the spinal cord. Unfortunately either of these conditions are very good or respond well to treatment. In my experience , dexamethasone is the best treatment for this problem.
The dip inthe back is consistent with these problems. I have had clients use a higher dose of dexamethasone. I have had clients give 10 cc dex once a day for 2-3 days. I give the dex in the neck muscle. If you decide to continue the dmso, it should be applied to the back area. This may not be very effective , since the damage is deep under the backbone and the dmso typically doesn't penentrate deeply enough to help with this condition.
You could have a vet examine him to confirm this possibility and see about giving other antiinflammatory medicines like banamine, which is not licensed for use in swine and needs to be prescribed by a vet.
With either if these conditions , the problem is that there canbe physical damage to the spinal cord or other nerves and as long as there is damage to the nerves, the medicines aren't strong enough to do anything to repai the damage.
I hope this has helped. If it has would you please click the accept button so i may receive credit for my answer. Thank you and good luck. I will check later to see if you have more questions. /
