I have a H.p. Pavillion Enterainment PCprtoduct HP Pavillion dv9700s/n CNF8232P4Np/n FF492EA ABUit has been great but yesterday the screen failed if i plug into another screen it works fine I have been told this is not repairable help
Already Tried: just taking it into Currys and they said it was a screen fail as everythinh else was working
Hi my name is ColinI would agree generally with Curry's (i generally don't to be honest)I suspect the reason Curry's are reporting the laptop as not repairable is because that model of Laptop has a known graphics issue which gives symptoms of screen problems but in fact is a much bigger problem, of which they likely have seen many. It stems from a chip on the circuit board inside called an Nvidia chip. If you google Nvidia chip failures you will see pages of issues regarding it. In short the Nvidia chip would overheat and was in effect a ticking time bomb. It hit the whole Dv range of HP laptops as well as ranges of Compaq, Acer and other laptops. The symptoms usually are blank or white internal screen but initially still working on the external port. (that eventually fails too). The problem was frequent enough that Hp extended the warranty on the laptops in some countries by a year but that has now long since passed unfortunately. The problem can be fixed but i would question whether it is cost effective. To replace the board with a new HP updated version would be something like £300.There are companies that specialize is taking the faulty chip off of the laptop circuit and fixing it. I can't vouch for how effective the repair is as i have not used them but it is the only viable repair cost wise in my opinion if you are keen to keep the laptop running.Below is a link to one such company but i cannot vouch for them as i just plucked them from the internet. http://www.creativeit.tv/laptop-nvidia-graphics-card-repair.htmSorry it's not better news but on this occasion Curry's were being honest with you. To replace the screen would likely not make any difference to the issue and waste your money.Any questions, please reply back to me.

could you tell me what laptop to go for to have at least the same speck if not better I must have web cam built in as children live abroad and I use skype and I also use it for work. Kind Regards XXXXX XXXXX
Sure XXXXXX The best on the market in my opinion are Sony and Toshiba but you do pay a premium for those brands so depends to an extent on budget. The ones to avoid are store own brands if possible (advent for example) because they tie you to that store for warranty and parts.Of the other brands, Dell, Acer, Packard Bell, even HP (the nvidia chip that caused the issue is no longer used)Something like the Toshiba C870 range is very nice.I picked this advert as i shows it better than the Toshiba website. http://www.very.co.uk/toshiba-c870-11j-intel-core-i3-2350m-6gb-ram-640gb-hd-173-inch-laptop---black/1116892389.prd
