I have Acer 5250 laptop. Keyboard function is irratic and keys don't always respond. I plugged in an external keyboard and that works just fine.
Already Tried: Plugged in external keyboard and that works fine. The Laptop keyboard is spasmodic - doesn't type what I type.
Hello, and welcome to Justanswer. My name is XXXXXX XXX I will be happy to assist you.
Please let me know when you are ready.
I am ready
The cursor jumps around while you are typing. Right?
Yes, and typing at a normal speed, many letters just don't type - they are skipped. And then I'll be taken to some other spot.
The issue is with the touchpad sensitivity.
I would suggest you download and install Touchfreeze software.
Go to the link below, click Download section.
From where?
http://code.google.com/p/touchfreeze/
Download and install the software.
Please let me know when you done that.
OK, give me a few minutes to do that. I am not typing on the laptop in question. I went to that link but it does not say it is for Windows 7??
It is compatible with Windows 7.
OK, I'm downloading and installing now.
Okay.
I downloaded it, but it does not "freeze" the touch pad. In other word, I can type with one hand and move my other hand on the touch pad and the cursor responds to the touch pad movement. Is there a way to totally disable the touchpad, since I use a mouse and not the touchpad?
Please click Start, All Programs and select Touchfreeze.
It will not open it.
However, it will get enabled by selecting it.
After doing the same, try typing anything.
OK
Are you able to type now?
It seems to be typing OK now, but still the touchpad is way too sensitive and opens up other menu when my hand brushes near it. Can the touchpad be turned off? Also, does Touchfreeze have to be clicked on EVERY time you start your computer to enable it?
Yes. You may disable the tpuchpad when you are not using the same.
Do you see a function key with the picture of touchpad?
Yes, looks like F7. Does that disable it for that session?
Please press Fn and F7 togethere.
Hey, that does the trick. Fn+F7 disables the touchpad. I can live with that. Do you think it would need to be disabled every time you turn on the computer?
No.
