Hello, I have an ACER Aspire One Laptop. Up unitl 2 days

Hello,
I have an ACER Aspire One Laptop. Up unitl 2 days ago i could connect with the wireless and a CAT5 cable. The cable connection has disappeared entirely. The wireless still works. Do I need a new network card or is it something else? Thanks.

I've tried to create a new network conncection in control panel but it does not see the LAN

The only conncection visible in the lower right corner is the wireless.

The second icon (picture of a monitor) is not there, just one for the wireless

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.msc

Please respond to all the following steps.

  1. Under network adapter, please tell me all the devices listed.
  2. Are there any devices under Network adapters that have a red x displayed?
  3. Also, are there any devices anywhere in the Device Manager display with yellow ? or ! displayed?

no, in network adapters only the wireless is listed.

That means either the lan is disabled in bios or it has gone loose..

DO you have some computer expert nearby who can open the system and check that the network card is not loose?

not today. can i do it myself? I've opened desktops before.

if its bad ,fortunately these nic cards are cheap

You can it from any good computer store nearby.

Hmm..before that just check bios

lifesaver_333 :

Restart system

lifesaver_333 :

press <F2> during the POST

lifesaver_333 :

i.e immediately when you see the acer logo press f2

lifesaver_333 :

Go into the bios and look for it. When you find it, see if nic is disabled..if so select enable, then back out and save. reboot.

at the top onf screen it reads information, main, security, boot and exit. which one?

i see it now. network boot is enabled.

but F12 boot menu is disabled.

no not network boot..

on the right it describes network boot as "disables or enables PXE bot to LAN"

thats the bios boot menu..

can you come out and get into bios main menu

F9 asks me to load set defaults, yes/no

Using F2 - when i exited the xp start up began. Go back to F2?

just check again in device manager if resetting he bios to defaults has enabled lan back in device manager

and to enter bios..power off system completely..then keep tapping the f2 key and power on system

on main there is system time, system date, quick boot, network boot, f12 boot menu, d2d recovery and SAT mode

is there a different f key that get me to bios settings?

f2 is the key i know..

system bios version: V1.02 and VGA bios version Intel V1585

plus i also dont think this bios thing is going to help as we have set it to default
