Hello,I have an ACER Aspire One Laptop. Up unitl 2 days ago i could connect with the wireless and a CAT5 cable. The cable connection has disappeared entirely. The wireless still works. Do I need a new network card or is it something else? Thanks.
I've tried to create a new network conncection in control panel but it does not see the LAN
Welcome to justanswer
Are you using windows xp ?
What is the acer aspire model ?
give me a minute. I have to go upstairs and get the machine.
where is the model number located?
on the back of the laptop
for e.g acer aspire 1350
ok.give me 1 min..
let me look for the details
please visit the link below
ok, i'm there
CLick driver and utilities
Download the one that says LAN_AR8114....
doing it now
open or save?
save to desktop
i have the file in a folder now
open it and install it
double clip on setup.exe?
ok.let it .complete .
restart system and check if lan is back
ok, restarting now
it will take a minute
The only conncection visible in the lower right corner is the wireless.
The second icon (picture of a monitor) is not there, just one for the wireless
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type devmgmt.mscPlease respond to all the following steps.
no, in network adapters only the wireless is listed.
SO only wireless is listed and LAN is missing
That means either the lan is disabled in bios or it has gone loose..
DO you have some computer expert nearby who can open the system and check that the network card is not loose?
not today. can i do it myself? I've opened desktops before.
desktop its easy to disassemble..
notebooks and netbooks i wont advice
what about checking the bios first?
how do i get there?
We will check bios after some time.
FIrst go the same link
Download the BIOS latest version i.e v1.2
Downlaod and install it..
which one do I install? KAV60102.zip or winflash_KAV60102.zip
run or extract all?
run the file named KAV60102.exe inside winflash
looks like it is restarting
plug in the network cable into LAN jack
Does it appear under network adpater
only thing there is the wireless
seems that the network adapter itself is loose
either loose of bad?
i menat loose or bad?
thats the only thing i see now..
if not loose but bad where should I get a replacement?
if its bad ,fortunately these nic cards are cheap
You can it from any good computer store nearby.
USB nic cards are available also
ok. do you want me to open up the machine while we are online?
no..i wont suggest that.
because i cant see the system from here
ok, i'll remove the screws on the back and see what it loods like. Thanks for your help.
Hmm..before that just check bios
press <F2> during the POST
i.e immediately when you see the acer logo press f2
Go into the bios and look for it. When you find it, see if nic is disabled..if so select enable, then back out and save. reboot.
ok, give me a minute
I have it but don't see a way to get to bios
sorry..couldnt get you.
you are unable to get into bios ?
at the top onf screen it reads information, main, security, boot and exit. which one?
i see it now. network boot is enabled.
but F12 boot menu is disabled.
no not network boot..
on the right it describes network boot as "disables or enables PXE bot to LAN"
thats the bios boot menu..
can you come out and get into bios main menu
press f9. discard changes and exit..
F9 asks me to load set defaults, yes/no
going to reboot in a minute. which f key?
ok. i'm there
WHat do you see ?
don3e f9, discard changes and exiting
see if you can see things like system time, system information ,boot menu,etc..
Under Integrated Devices you find onboard NIC / LAN
Using F2 - when i exited the xp start up began. Go back to F2?
just check again in device manager if resetting he bios to defaults has enabled lan back in device manager
and to enter bios..power off system completely..then keep tapping the f2 key and power on system
not in device manager.
shutting down and trying to get to bios now.
All i get is the set up utility. Is this where I should be?
what do you see inside setup ?
information, main, security, boot, exit on top
on bottom f9 for setup default
the up/down arrow doesn't let me choose anything
try the side arrows
basically i want you to navigate inside bios..
there should be this integrated peripheral devices somewhere..
They move me between the choices at the top.
yes navigate to main and press enter
on main there is system time, system date, quick boot, network boot, f12 boot menu, d2d recovery and SAT mode
et into information
discard changes - yes/no
i want ou to get into information tab
yes discard changes
but try arrow keys and see if you can get to information
done but now xp is booting up.
I can get to information tab but not to anything on screen
do you see anything about bios type or version ?
is there a different f key that get me to bios settings?
f2 is the key i know..
system bios version: V1.02 and VGA bios version Intel V1585
plus i also dont think this bios thing is going to help as we have set it to default
time to check the nic?
So the only thing left is loose or bad nic
ok, I guess we are finished here. Thanks.
just one advice be careful while disassembling the system
Welcome..please keep me updated//
Have a nice day ahead.
tks you too
