My Gateway PA6A will not boot, the restore option merely returns a black screen, using the cd boot option doesn't work either it won't read the drive with the boot disc in. Nor will it allow me to see the set up menu only the boot menu. Please help
Optional Information: Computer OS: Windows Vista Browser: IE Already Tried: built in restore option, can't get DOS boot so can't do reg restore. Tried booting from boot DVD but drive not reading even after setting menu option to DVD priority.
Hello
Thank you for posting your question
My name is X.X. XXX I will be assisting you.
Can you please try brining up the advanced boot menu. In order to do this as soon as you turn you computer on start tapping f8 and dont stop until you see the advanced boot menu.
If you get this menu to come up choose the option to boot in safe mode with networking
Please let me know how you make out
Thanks
R.J.
It gets as far as windows\system32\drivers\crcdisk.sys then says to 'please wait....' then nothing else happens ever....
What operating system are you running?
Have you tried running a start up repair?
I had already tried that when trying to access the dos prompt it gets tot eh same point because it is effectively loading the files in the same way.
I am afraid that you are looking at doing a reinstall of the operating system.
If you have critical files you can more than likly recover those
however you would need to remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer to do that.
I gathered that but cannot access the dvd drive even when I opt for that as primary boot.
So even from the boot menu if you choose to boot from CD/DVD drive it does not work for you?
Are you still there?
No, that is correct, therefore don't know how to restore the OS
I am sorry to say but if the system will not even boot from a CD I believe you will have to bring it into a shop. As this is outside of the scope of this service.
Thanks anyway,
regards
