hi i can help let me know when you are in the chat and ready to begin
hi
great, lets start by finding out where the issue is exactly. can you see wireless networks but cannot connect or can you not even get to the point of seeing any wireless networks
ok, let's go to start then control panel, once the control panel opens type device in the search box on the upper right, then click device manager on the left.
Once device manager opens let me know the names of everything with a Yellow triangle next to them
ok, right click network controller and then select properties
then click the details tab
now select hardware ids from the drop down and tell me what the first value is
should be something like pci\ven_###
yeah just need the top one
actually, i'll need you to type what the top one says in this window
great, please click this link and install the application. this will install the proper wifi drivers for your system
http://tinyurl.com/6nb4o3n
yeah, type that link in the address bar of internet explorer on the PC , not on the search bar. (it'll be the top most bar of the internet browser
When prompted choose to open or run the file
ok, on the windows start bar at the bottom there should be a symbol that looks like a pc screen with a plug on the left of it or an icon that looks like a bar graph
do you see either of those
great click on that icon do you see available wifi networks pop-up ?
ok
ok, let's go to start then control panel, once the control panel opens type network in the search box on the upper right, then click network and sharing on the left.
click change adapter settings on the left
then let me know if you see one that says wireless network connection
ok, what does it say underneath the word wireless
right click on it , you should see "connect/disconnect" click that and then wireless networks available near you should appear
is there a wifi connection available near you that you are aware of?
ok, one sec
on the compaq'
sorry
on the compaq's keyboard is there a light on or near the F12 key?
ok, give it a sec then try the connect/disconnect option again. Orange means the wifi card was powered off white means on
We could give that a go , it wont hurt. when it does come back up make sure F12 is white then try searching for wifi
and the lights still white correct
let's go ahead and click the troubleshoot link , it may give us a better clue
i don't believe that's the issue. Wirless drivers are very specific and it would not show up in device manager if it was incorrct.
was the wireless working before the win 7 install?
ok, let's check one more thing
can you go to the start menu then right click on computer choose manage
then expand services and applications on the bottom of the list on the left
then click services
let me know if WLAN autoconfig is started or stopped, easy way to tell is to right click on it and if there's an option to start click that.
then let's see if that works. if it's already started try clicking the restart option
ok, right click on it and select properties, then change startup type to automatic
in that same window there should be a start option that will be clickable after you change it to automatic
no problem, should work going forward as long as that service is set to auto
glad i could help
