JohnTheExpert :

hi i can help let me know when you are in the chat and ready to begin

JohnTheExpert :

hi

Customer : ok im here
JohnTheExpert :

great, lets start by finding out where the issue is exactly. can you see wireless networks but cannot connect or can you not even get to the point of seeing any wireless networks

Customer : i cant see wireless but i can see ethernet connection on the bottom bar now that it is working with ethernet now
JohnTheExpert :

ok, let's go to start then control panel, once the control panel opens type device in the search box on the upper right, then click device manager on the left.

JohnTheExpert :

Once device manager opens let me know the names of everything with a Yellow triangle next to them

Customer : network controller and pci devices have the yellow triangle them
JohnTheExpert :

ok, right click network controller and then select properties

Customer : device not with s sorry
JohnTheExpert :

then click the details tab

Customer : ok
JohnTheExpert :

now select hardware ids from the drop down and tell me what the first value is

JohnTheExpert :

should be something like pci\ven_###

Customer : there are 4 (pci\ven) there
JohnTheExpert :

yeah just need the top one

Customer : click the top one and press ok?
JohnTheExpert :

actually, i'll need you to type what the top one says in this window

Customer : ok
Customer : pci\ven_10ec&dev_8176&subsys_1629103c&rev_01
JohnTheExpert :

great, please click this link and install the application. this will install the proper wifi drivers for your system

JohnTheExpert :

http://tinyurl.com/6nb4o3n

JohnTheExpert :

http://tinyurl.com/6nb4o3n

Customer : should i type in this link in the search on the compaq because im on a mac right now
JohnTheExpert :

yeah, type that link in the address bar of internet explorer on the PC , not on the search bar. (it'll be the top most bar of the internet browser

JohnTheExpert :

When prompted choose to open or run the file

Customer : ok it is showing that the network no longer has the yellow mark now i see under network adapters realtek pcie fe family controller and realtek rtl8188ce 802.11b/g/n wifi adapter and the pci devices is still with yellow marker next to it
JohnTheExpert :

ok, on the windows start bar at the bottom there should be a symbol that looks like a pc screen with a plug on the left of it or an icon that looks like a bar graph

JohnTheExpert :

do you see either of those

Customer : i see wifi bars with a red x over them on the bottom bar
JohnTheExpert :

great click on that icon do you see available wifi networks pop-up ?

Customer : no
JohnTheExpert :

ok

JohnTheExpert :

ok, let's go to start then control panel, once the control panel opens type network in the search box on the upper right, then click network and sharing on the left.

Customer : ok
JohnTheExpert :

click change adapter settings on the left

JohnTheExpert :

then let me know if you see one that says wireless network connection

Customer : it does say wireless
JohnTheExpert :

ok, what does it say underneath the word wireless

Customer : not connected
JohnTheExpert :

right click on it , you should see "connect/disconnect" click that and then wireless networks available near you should appear

Customer : ok it opened the bottom wifi bar and it say not connected and no connections are available and troubleshoot
JohnTheExpert :

is there a wifi connection available near you that you are aware of?

Customer : yes im right next to it
JohnTheExpert :

ok, one sec

Customer : ok
JohnTheExpert :

on the compaq'

JohnTheExpert :

sorry

JohnTheExpert :

on the compaq's keyboard is there a light on or near the F12 key?

Customer : yes i pressed it a little back to make sure it was on it was orange but now its white
Customer : but still nothing
JohnTheExpert :

ok, give it a sec then try the connect/disconnect option again. Orange means the wifi card was powered off white means on

Customer : ok should i restart
JohnTheExpert :

We could give that a go , it wont hurt. when it does come back up make sure F12 is white then try searching for wifi

Customer : ok
Customer : its configuring windows updates right now
Customer : ok its up the light was ornge and i made it white but at the bottom it still say no connections
Customer : in the wifi
JohnTheExpert :

and the lights still white correct

Customer : yes
JohnTheExpert :

let's go ahead and click the troubleshoot link , it may give us a better clue

Customer : it say there might be a problem with the driver for wireless network connection adapter
JohnTheExpert :

i don't believe that's the issue. Wirless drivers are very specific and it would not show up in device manager if it was incorrct.

JohnTheExpert :

was the wireless working before the win 7 install?

Customer : its not my computer so i dont know im putting windows 7 in it for a friend and i cant really get a hold of him at work
JohnTheExpert :

ok, let's check one more thing

JohnTheExpert :

can you go to the start menu then right click on computer choose manage

JohnTheExpert :

then expand services and applications on the bottom of the list on the left

JohnTheExpert :

then click services

JohnTheExpert :

let me know if WLAN autoconfig is started or stopped, easy way to tell is to right click on it and if there's an option to start click that.

JohnTheExpert :

then let's see if that works. if it's already started try clicking the restart option

Customer : the wlan down the list next to it it say disabled under startup type
Customer : and when i right click the start is not shaded
Customer : nor stop or pause resume restart
JohnTheExpert :

ok, right click on it and select properties, then change startup type to automatic

JohnTheExpert :

in that same window there should be a start option that will be clickable after you change it to automatic

Customer : nice you are the man!!!! i mean the man!!!!!!! its showing my and every wifi around now!!! u have no idea how happy i am now thank u a lot
JohnTheExpert :

no problem, should work going forward as long as that service is set to auto

JohnTheExpert :

glad i could help

Customer : thank u very very much for the great service from you!!! your the man!!
JohnTheExpert :

your welcome. If you can just accept and leave me positive feedback that would be great. nice woring with you

JohnTheExpert :
