Hi. My name is XXXXX XXX I'm happy to assist. On the NB200, to brighten the screen you hold down the Fn key (lower left of keyboard) and press the F7 key (upper row) to increase screen brightness. Each tap of the F7 key incrementally increases the brightness. To lower the brightness repeat the steps above but this time use the F6 key to dim the display. If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

It does not work. I see the stuff on the things but vaguely. Screen shows stuff but vaguely

Customer :

I tried what you have written already before I asked for help

dukey01 :

Does the brightness of the screen change depending on whether you are running on battery or plugged into wall power? If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Plugged into wall power but no change

Customer :

Still see the screen but vaguely

dukey01 :

Is your laptop running Windows 7? Or another version of Windows?

Customer :

Windows 7

dukey01 :

Go to Start and open Control Panel. In your Power Options, do you have any brightness controls available there. There may also be a Toshiba power utility installed on the laptop.

Customer :

Under colour management there is a brightness option. but brightness is at its max

and under power option it says that power balances automatically

Customer :

but i can hardly see a thing on the screen

Customer :

i have to tilt it at a certain angle to even see a word

dukey01 :

Alright. Is the diminished screen brightness something that happened recently or has this taken place over a long period of time. The reason I ask is that a laptop screen, or even a computer monitor for that matter, don't have what we think of as light bulbs. They contain chemical compounds that emit light when an electrical current passes through them. Over time the ability of the compounds to produce that light diminishes and the result is a loss of brightness.

Customer :

it just happened recently. more like overnight

Customer :

one day it was working fine and the next, the whole screen is blank

dukey01 :

I understand. The situation you describe points to a failure or defect in the screen. Given that that model was produced in 2009 it points to the screen starting to fail. Unfortunately this is something that can't be corrected over the Internet. I recommend that the laptop be looked at by a local shop.

dukey01 :

We've performed the steps that would normally be done to increase brightness. The controls are at their max and there are no other control or options available to make adjustments.

Customer :

Noted. Will get the laptop checked out by a local shop. Thanks so much!!
