I have an Acer Extensa 5220 with a virus that has totally locked down the laptop. I am unable to use anything like the start menu or task manager. I have also tried to re-boot with safe mode to try a restore but it will not start in safe mode, keeps saying it has encountered a problem. Where do I go from here please.
Already Tried: Re-booting in safe mode but it wont let me, keeps saying it has encountered a problem
Hi,I'm sorry about the computer issue. Windows is corrupted. Please try this: turn off the acer computer, then turn it back on, then press at the same time the two keys Alt and F10 when the computer logo appears on the screen in order to do a system recovery. If that does not work, do you have the windows / recovery disk? Please let me know later. Thank you.
I will have to try this tonight at home this evening and so will not be able to reply today. But NO, I do not have any windows / recovery disk.
How can I come back to you, maybe tomorrow with an answer.
No problem. You can bookmark/add to favorites this web page to get back to me tomorrow or any time. Thank you.

Well I did as you said last night and restored to factory settings as I don't have a recovery disc. Thankfully this seems to have worked and I have managed to get my broadband up and running and have downloaded Internet explorer 8. I have a long way to go to get back to what it was but the virus appears to have gone.
Just a couple of queries please - I think I loaded the keyboard as 'US' (as it suggested) and now the '@' doesn't work so I am unable to enter my email address anywhere, how can I get this back ? and secondly, am I able to make a recovery disc, just in case this happens again ?
Thanks
Great. You're welcome. You can go to Start, control panel, regional / language/ keyboard, then you can adjust the correct language and/or remove the US keyboard and add the keyboard type you want.Yes, you can make the recovery disk from Start, All programs, Acer / recovery, etc.If you would like any additional information or have more questions please don’t hesitate to ask!
