I have a HP Pavilion zv6000. it tends to shut down without explanation. the laptop has only 1 hour life from new and it never shuts down when on battery power. it shuts down when on charger. sometimes 10 minutes into a session sometimes 2 hours into a session. it will start up immediately but may shut down again in 10 minutes or stay going for an hour or more. any ideas where I should start looking?
Already Tried: this is the first step
Hello
I will be happy to help you
There could be two causes
1. Ac adapter failure. 2. Motherboard failure (part close to DC jack).
to further narrow down, please borrow another Ac Adapter
if it works fine, then you need to have ac afapter replaced
if still same issues, then the problems will be motherboard
Thank you
Could an external item such as a usb internet stick cause such a problem as well?
There are a couple of other factors you should take a look at as well.Your symptoms also could be explained by an overheating problem. When your machine starts up, do you hear the fan start up with it? Put your hand near the fan port, and let me know if you can feel any airflow. If the fan is physically broken, you can only fix it with hardware replacement. If you have no experience working with laptops and small electronics, your best option is to take it to a repair shop.Let me know about that test.
