So I've been staying in a loft with a friend for 7yrs now and I've got documentation for paying rent but he's the only one on the lease....Can he legally throw me out on the street whenever he wants ?

OK. If you don't have a lease agreement, you are a month-to-month tenant. Month to month tenants have limited rights, but he is required to give you one month's notice to evict you. He doesn't need a reason to evict you, such as late payment of rent, etc., he can just terminate the month to month agreement with one month's notice.
