I live in a apartment in Chesterfield, MO and our lease

I live in a apartment in Chesterfield, MO and our lease ended on July 22. At that time we were not able to find a place to move into so we made a verbal agreement with the apartment complex that we could stay for one more month at our current lease rate. Yesterday they just charged me a extra $450 and forced me to pay at the month to month rate. Given that we had a verbal agreement before our leased ended can they legally without notice force us to pay the higher rate?

Hello, the owner/landlord cannot raise your rent in this manner.
Your lease ended and you continued month to month.
rent can be increased IF landlord gives advance 30 day notice of the increase. Here it has not, so rent remains the same as under the lease.
