My main entrance key was bent and broken, and the manager said he did not have a duplicate key available and that i should go out have one made, I told him the key cannot be duplicated because it was stamped do not duplicate, He said he could not do anything about it, I was very upset to say the least, we ended up in an argument, and he refused to talk with me until i calmed down, though he threatened to hit me because i told him i would taking the issue to the police Today i subsequently contacted other locksmiths and apartment managers who said he was legally responsible to provide access to the building. What are my rights and avenues of action Steven
Response: Your manager is wrong. Your manager is responsible for giving you a replacement key. If the key you have is stamped, do not duplicate, you CANNOT DUPLICATE it. So, the manager is wrong in his understanding of the law. No, reputable place can duplicate a key that is stamped: DO NOT DUPLICATE because it is illegal to do so. If the manager continues to ignore you, then you would need to take the matter to Court. That is, filing lawsuit to force the manager to comply with your request.
