JA: How many miles are on the car? Is it an automatic or a manual transmission?
Customer: 160,000 it's automatic
JA: Are you fixing your Sorento yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: I'd like to. Haven't tried anything yet
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: Just that it's random and was infrequent but today it did it twice

Hello, my name is***** most common cause of this on your vehicle is a failing crankshaft position sensor. This is very common. The sensor starts reading intermittently and causes the engine to cut out. The only way to really diagnose it would be to monitor the sensor reading when the issue occurs to see if the engine rpm is lost. If it is then the sensor is bad. I usually just replace it first if it is that intermittent. It can also be the ignition switch or another electrical issue but those are not as common. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need anything else.
