Kia Troubleshooting Questions? Ask a Mechanic
Hello and thank you for your question! My name is ***** ***** I will be assisting you with your question today.
Is the check engine light on?
Does it happen more if the engine is hot or cold?
No check engine light actually sort of helps. If it's jerking more when it's hot, then it usually can indicate low fuel pressure, or a problem with the catalytic converter. New as the car is, it's possible the converter is plugging up and causing the skipping or jerking you are feeling.
Also, and more likely in my opinion is it likely has a bad ignition coil. Without the light we don't know which one is the problem child, but it usually takes a certain set of circumstances for the coil to fail. You might want to try starting the car and spraying some water on the coils. maybe one will arc and you will know which one needs to be replaced.

That is usually an adjustment on the neutral safety switch. It's not quite getting the signal to the computer that the car is in park. This isn't really uncommon at all.
Now some of these did have issues with the shifter itself, but usually the adjustment on the transmission that needs to be dialed in.
Sorry I forgot about that, it's not usually a factor with the running problem, but of course it's important!!
You are very welcome!
