I have a 2007 Kia Optima that has sat (maybe 6-8 months),

Customer Question

I have a 2007 Kia Optima that has sat for while (maybe 6-8 months), and it ran low on a/c coolant. I replenished it, it builds pressure like normal on low (30) and high side (175), the clutch stays engaged then it tries work, the high-side pressure drops to level (100) and stays there and doesn't go back up and a/c never cools. If I shut car off and restart it the same process occurs each time.

when it drops to 100 on high what does the low side do ?

Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 4 months ago.

did you use a a/c machine where you pulled a vacuum or just refilled from low side from like an advance auto r134a cans ?

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
It goes down to 30psi. This is the same pressure its at when the engine is off.

Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 4 months ago.

after you filed , right now with car and a/c off, what is the low side reading ?

please let me know

Thanks

Chad

When the car is off the low side is at 30 psi and the high side is at 100 psi
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
When I first start the car the high side goes up to 175psi and the low never reaches 40 psi
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 4 months ago.

If the system is full you should have 100+ on low side with car off, after 10 minutes of a/c being off and the Freon settles in system

when the car sat and you have to add Freon ,that means you have a leak , must be a big leak, because you only have 30 psi of pressure not enough freon

in system , so you have to find the leak first, and then fix and then see what is the low side pressure , to determine if the compressor is good or not

those kia my experience the compressor seal leaks from front clutch, put some color diey in it ans see.

Have you tested this switch, i sent you a link

do you have 2.4 or 2.7 liter ?

when you say low never reaches 40, that is more indication of a a weak compressor pump , plus we have a leak , since you are not holding it, you only have 30 psi now

Customer: replied 4 months ago.
OK, I have a leak finder kit so I will check that. What should the pressures be normally when running?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 4 months ago.

these numbers with car running ac on

you should see 25 to 50 psi on low side

150 200 psi tops on high , all these will depends on temperature outside

on hot weather expect higher numbers .
