Hello, I'm Brandon - kia tech.It is voltage regulator in the alternator that is the problem.Yes, I know you test the output of the alternator but if the regulator is faulty it won't give the right charge. You will need to replace the alternator and make sure the belt is also replaced. Please rate me positive, thank you!

would the bad regulator show up when Alternator tested
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.
The newer machine could test out the alternator diode and regulator. The old machine in the auto store won't be accurate and do not test out regulator.

Do you have a voltmeter? I could give you direction on how to test it.

Would the warning lights on dash come on if battery was not charging
Expert:  internal88 replied 1 year ago.
Yes, the battery will stay on if is not charging.

Hook up the voltmeter to the battery directly. Now turn the engine ON. The meter should read 13.8 v range. Now rev the rpm to 2000 rpm. It should read between 13.9v-14.3 volts. Anything over or less is a problem.
