We are changing the timing belt on a 2003 Kia Rio 1.6L and can't get the guide plate off to get the old belt off. We have not removed the bolt in the end of the crankshaft, just the crankshaft pully. Do we have to remove that bolt to get the guide plate off?

Is there a recommended way to "wedge" the engine and keep it from turning wile we take that bolt out?
There is actually a special tool to use from Kia to do this or an impact gun will work fine.Worst case scenario you can remove the starter and wedge a pry bar in to lock up the motor and get the bolt out with a breaker bar .Hoped this helped .
