I have a 2008 KIA Spectra ES with a problem. With a cold start the engine will increase rpm's to about 2000 and then go back down. The problem also has happened with a warm engine. KIA has replaced the spark plugs and a tune up.....I also paid over $500 to replace the sensor that controls the oxygen. But the problem still exists. Any solutions?

Hello and thank you for choosing just answer,
So when you start your vehicle the rpm goes up to 2000 then comes back down slowly to normal? Do it go to 2000rpm when the engine is started when it's warm?
Did this problem exist before?
It didn't go to 2000rpm on a warm engine before the oxygen sensor was replaced, but today for the first time the rpm's increased on a warm engine.
OK when was the O2 sensor replaced?
Sensor replaced last week
Are you still there?
OK I will tell you what I think, I am thinking that they erased the memory while performing the job, by erasing the memory you erase the learned idle values for the on board computer. The computer might take up to 2 weeks to fully learn the idle value and usually will idle higher than normal until the computer learns the idle again.
As for the high idle when the vehicle is cold that is a normal strategy of the computer, it will raise the idle to create a faster oil flow so the engine wouldn't run with low oil when first started in the morning. so that's normal.
Drive your vehicle for another week and see if the idle values are learned, if it's still the same then take it back to that dealership and have them see what they did wrong, they had no problem taking your 500 dollars and now they have to deal with their mistakes. If they said the o2 sensor will correct it and it didn't then they will deal with it.
