My 2003 Kia Sorento is having problems starting. It starts sometimes and the check engine light will come on for a while, Then it won't start. It sounds like it is trying to turn over, but just never gets thee. The battery was recently replaced and it was fine for a while, but is now doing it again. I tried to have the code read on the engine light, but the techs tool would not read anything.

How would I check that?
You can use a spark tester or a screw driver to check for spark while the engine is being cranked over. If there is no spark, I would suspect a crankshaft position sensor. If you have spark, then I would check fuel pressure. You could have a bad or weak fuel pump. If this checks out ok, I would check the purge solenoid (could be leaking fuel vapors into the engine causing a hard start condition), mass air flow sensor and engine temp sensor.
