2007 KIA RIO: running rough..only 20 percent compression..cyclinder

Resolved Question:

2007 KIA RIO running rough. Mechanic told me it had only 20 percent compression on #2 cyclinder. Its a 1.6 engine and has 150000 miles on it. Is is probably the head or engine block. Would appreciate best guess. Last week KIA charged me $500 and said it was fixed, now its running rough adain and engine light on again. Said they replaced some hard to get to engine sensor.

Hi Sir or Madam Thank you for choosing JA, I will do my very best to assist you with your concern.
HI there! So KIA didn't check the compression prior to replacing the sensor?
I mean, it is a different mechanic telling you the compression is low?
Customer: replied 5 years ago.
Yes a non KIA mechanic told me and showed me the low compression

Ok, I would suspect a bad valve causing the problem. There is a simple test to determine if it is a valve or not.
Take a cap full of motor oil and put it into the cylinder, then retest compression. IF the compression is higher, then the problem is with the rings, if it stays the same, then it is a valve issue.
This is a effective test to determine which way to go on the car.
Hope this helps!
