the engine light on my 2001 Sportage came on, and a "HOLD" light keeps flashing next to it. What does this mean? The car has oil and coolant.

The check engine light can come on for many reason so you will have to get it scanned. The hold light will also flash when there is a code for the check engine light. You can get it scanned for free at most Autozone and Advance auto parts stores. After you get it scanned let me know what the code is and maybe I can tell you what it is.
