I have a 2001 wrangler. When towing it with my rv the front

Customer Question

I have a 2001 wrangler. When towing it with my rv the front diff overheated to the point of blowing oil out the vent. It does not do it when just driving.
JA: Have you checked the coolant? Have you checked for a leak in the cooling system?
Customer: What would that have to do with the front diff?
JA: Are you fixing your Wrangler yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: All I have done is remove the cover. Everything looks good. Oil just overheated. Diff was so hot I could not touch it.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: NO

Hi, my name is ***** ***** you flat towing this? what procedures are you doing?

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
flat towing. Transfer case in netural, trans in gear, and steering unlocked.

I have driven the jeep around for hours and it does not overheat the front diff. I hooked it to the rv and only went about 20 miles and it was blowing oil out the overflow. I could not touch the diff case it was so hot.

Customer: replied 19 days ago.
It is a manual transmission. The owners manual says to put the transmission in gear. I had it in 4th.
