I have a 1996 jeep cherokee 2WD AUTO 4.0L I6. Transmission

Customer Question

I have a 1996 jeep cherokee 2WD AUTO 4.0L I6. Transmission chewed up both speedo gears. Replaced both gears and VSS. Speedo still does not work. Is there a way to chech in dash speedometer without pulling it out?

Not sure why you want to check the instrument cluster. This is a 2WD you said. Correct?

It is a Cherokee not a Grand Cherokee. Correct?

2WD. I want to rule out a bad speedometer. Do you know of any problems with the replacement VSS? Every store had a udated version with new pigtail to wire in.

No problems that I know of. No service bulletins. You said it eats up the plastic gear?

Expert:  Cary York replied 2 months ago.

Is that what happened to the original one?
