Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

You may have a few things going on depending on what transmission you have. If it's an automatic you could have an issue with the shifter, the shift cable or an issue in the trans. With either trans you could have something foreign physically blocking shifter movement, if it's a manual trans you may have an internal mechanical failure.

What trans do you have?

It's a manual transmission

Was there any noise leading up to the shifter not moving?

Has the fluid level been checked?
