Hello and welcome to JustAnswer!

You may ave a couple different issues going on.

If you're unable to control mode then you either have a broken mode door, a bad actuator, possibly a control head or wiring issue. It will take some testing at the actuator to determine what is going on, odds are you either have a bad actuator or a broken door.

Many things can cause poor a/c performance ranging from the expansion valve, compressor, low charge, a cooling fan or blend door issue. If the only issue is lowered performance only when it's hotter out then most likely charge is simply low. The first step in diagnosing the problem will be to check the system's charge.
