Customer Question

My son has a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He had to replace the starter in it and also had to put in a different battery. Now it starts, but only for a couple seconds then dies. He was told he has to 'bypass the security/antii-theft system'. We can not figure out how he needs to do this.
JA: Sometimes things that you think will be really complicated end up being easy to fix with Jeep. The Jeep Mechanic I'm going to connect you with knows all the tricks and shortcuts. Are you hoping to fix this yourself?
Customer: yes he is hoping to fix it himself. I can have him online in a moment or two.
JA: Great! What have you tried so far?
Customer: Hold please.
JA: Is there anything else the Jeep Mechanic should be aware of about your Jeep?
Customer: hello i need to get my jeep to start and stay runningno
JA: OK. Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page on JustAnswer so you can place the $5 fully-refundable deposit now. While you're filling out that form, I'll tell the Jeep Mechanic about your situation and then connect you two.

Are you asking me for a phone call offer?
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
I don't know if you posted that question or if the system did, it has been acting crazy asking for phone calls lately. If you do want a call, I am happy to though
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Are you still in need of help with this problem?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
Is the call included in the 26.00 I've already paid for help?
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
No, the call is additional. I am happy to help you without a phone call, I just had a message pop up that you requested one.
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
I think you problem will be an easy one to fix, given that it started only after replacing the battery.
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Jeep has an idle learn procedure that is required any time the battery is removed, erasing the learned idle settings prior to removal. The way to do this is to start the car and keep it running with the accelerator pedal. Once you have it running, slowly release the pedal incrementally until it will run on its own. Let it run untouched for at least 5 minutes and then turn it off and restart. This should learn the idle and fix your issue!
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
OK, I hope it's going to be easy. Originally it was the starter I replaced. My battery was dead, so used my mom's battery from her van to start it after installing the starter. Now it starts, but dies in just a couple seconds. I was told it's possibly the anti-theft/security system possibly malfunctioning.
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
I don't think you have a problem with the antitheft system provided that the only work that was done since it ran on its own was the starter and battery.
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
is this something you are going to try tonight?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
i try to keep it running but it wont stay running for more than 2or3 seconds
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
It won't stay running even with your foot on the accelerator?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
no
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
i try to keep it running but it just dies
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Did you put a new battery in it?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
not brand new but new enough it will start the jeep if it would stay running
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Does it start every time you try to start it?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
yes but only for about 2 or 3 seconds
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Have you verified the fuel level in the vehicle?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
its got about a quarter tank in it
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
Do you know what caused your battery to die in the first place? Was something left on or did it just die?
Customer: replied 10 months ago.
not sure i wasnt there when this happened but the battery has always been good no problems with it
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 months ago.
I understand. I don't think that I am able to help you any further. I am going to opt out and open the question up to another expert.

Use number 1 and dont forget you have to ground the wire on the module side not the harness.
