Customer Question

1997 Cherokee. lost my overdrive in AT trans. Shifts fine in all other gears, reverse too. Is this a controller problem or am I heading into more trans trouble?

Hello, my name is***** sounds like your torque converter solenoid may have failed which controls overdrive. Check for power on the Light Blue wire at the Torque Converter Control (TCC) and Overdrive (OD) solenoids at the left rear of the transmission electrical connector. Check for a ground at the Violet/Yellow wire Powertrain Control Module (PCM) pin 54 for TCC and a ground at the Brown/Light Green wire pin 55 for OD control. If missing ground then problem is more likely controller. If solenoid is getting good power/ground but not going into overdrive replace the solenoid. Let me know if you have more questions, thanks.
