Country: United StatesMake: JeepModel: Commander LimitedYear: 2007 Already Tried: nothing
Hello welcome to JustAnswer, My name is XXXX XXX I will be assisting you.. Your Commander has the 134a freon. It has 2 psi test ports, one is small(low side) and one is larger(High side).. If you have a set of psi guages you can't hook them up but 1 way.. So if it's connected you are on the right one..Blue=LowRed=HighIf you have 150psi on the cold side you aren't blowing any cool or cold air.. 150psi on high side is low, it should be around 250psi.The first thing I would do is recover the freon to see if it's low.. If low re-charge with dye to find leak..
if i hook up to the low should it be reading 150 psi
o because it is if the low side is at fire wall on the right.
The low side is near firewall, correct
And it should not read 150
What is high side reading?
i do not have a guage for that side
Is the compressor kicking on, and what do the lines feel like?
so brad this is not a easy fix
I'm not sure yet.. Is the compressor kicking on, and what do the lines feel like?
i am at home let me ck
Take your time..
the top line is hot, the line below it is cool not cold
Thanks for the info.. Is the engine fan coming on?
no
It's not coming on after it is idleing and a/c is on?
Can you see the compressor clutch engaging?
So the compressor is not coming on or you can't see it.. I'm sorry for all the questions, but were almost there..
let me ck one more time
You should hear it clicking on and off..
the fan is tunning and i do not hear it click on and off
Ok the fan is turning and can you see if the compressor clutch is engaged?
no click
No the compressor is not engaged? not turning?
i can not tell, the belt is turnning the front of the comp
Yes the very front plate of the compressor, is it turning?
yes
Ok that is good.. Well the compressor is turning and the fans are coming on.. Can you feel the bigger lines going into the firewall and see if it's cold?
let me ck
ok i do hear the click of the clutch, the line is not cold going in to the fire wall
Ok does it keep kicking on and off?
So it kicks on 1 time and stays on?
when i push the air button
Ok since the compressor kicks on when you press the button and the fan comes on means that it has freon in it.. But we don't know if it is full.. The next step I would do is have it recovered to see if it has a full system charge in it..
If the lines going into the firewall aren't cold, you either have a low freon charge, a blockage, or a bad compressor.
so is that why the low side reads 150 psi
Is the test gauge you have blue?
it came wiht a store kit
it came with a store kit
Ok, then you are in fact on the low side..May I have the last 8 of your VIN?
explain why
I'm sorry.. I would like to see what kind of system you have.. A orface tube system or a H-block system.. If it is an H block system, it sticking open would cause this..
i let the car run for the last 10 min and it is just cool not cold , my gauge has a blue hose,my vin is 1J8HG48P
I'm sorry I need the last 8 of your VIN..
1C550157
That VIN is a 2001 Grand Cherokee..
no it is a jeep commander. 7c550157
Thanks!
Thats better, a Black Jeep Commander.. Just a sec while I look up the A/C system
Ok your system has an orface tube... So the H-Block isn't the issue.. I would have the system recovered to chekc the freon level..
I have had to replace 3 evaporators in commanders because of the evaporator leaking..
I went and doubled checked and you do have an expansion valve.... Do you see that square device near the firewall with both lines going into it?
If you freon level is full, the expansion valve could be the issue..
i am not gitting it the psi on the low side is 150, but the freon can still be low. the psi on the low side should be 25 to 45 right
That is correct. Like I said if the freon level is correct, I suspect the expansion valve to the the cause..
ok there brad i think you have helped me a lot , i will have it ck
