I have a 2000 Jeep Grande Cherokee. The dash board gauges peg to the left and all of the diagnostic lights come on and stay on including the "No Key" light. Engine starts and runs for 30 seconds or so and shuts down. The mechanic thought is was the Position Crank Sensor and that was replaced but that only worked for a day or two. So I have the same problem. Engine may start and run for 30 seconds or so. The engine may start and keep running and as I drive and it appears if I hit a bump in the road, the gauges will appear to start working for a second or two and then go back to the failed state where the gauges are pegged to the left and all lights on. The may engine will continue to run but power windows, inside lights will not work--the AC works for some reason. Then mysteriously, one gauge after another may start to work and the lights will extinguish one by one and I get some control back for example like windows and interior lights. However the "No Key" Light may stay "on" but the Jeep is usable with control to the windows, lights and turn signals. Sometimes the failures to my dash board will return while I am driving and I lose internal control but the vehicle's engine and air conditioning continues to work normally. The Jeep mechanic says I need a new "Brain". I am not convinced that was a well though answer, so I am asking the help of an on-line expert, whose opinion I weight heavily.

Hello and Welcome to Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX X will try my best to assist you and your 100% satisfaction is my goal. I have been working on these vehicles for over 10 years so I am very familiar with this system and how they work. However, keep in mind, that I need some solid concrete facts/evidence/clues from you in order to give you a good answer about your vehicle. Please realize that all my answers are based solely on the info that you provide me with.I believe there is actually a TSB about this problem. Remove the cluster and inspect the Chrysler Collision Detection BUS circuit terminals. Look for burned or corroded connections on the male pins of the cluster. If signs are seen then perform TSB # XXXXX The Instrument Cluster Connector oxidizes and creates a poor connection causing intermittent loss of the cluster operation. If that does not seem to be an issue, then either the instrument cluster itself is bad or another module on the BUS system is shorting out causing this problem. This is very common on these vehicles. Any module on the BUS system can short out causing this type of problem. Here is a list of potential causes.Air Bag Control ModuleInstrument ClusterInstrument Cluster WiringOverhead ConsolePowertrain Control ModuleRemote Key less Entry ModuleSentry Key Immobilizer ModuleTransmission Control ModuleOh.. and also, the camshaft position sensor can short out and cause this condition. I have even heard of water intrusion on connecter C200 near the right kick panel causing this condition as well. It will be a couple of weeks before I return home and can have the suggested diagnostic services performed. I did say that I had the CPS replaced with no help, so it must be one of the other items on the list.I will now have the other possible defective pieces examined that you pointed out. Your advice gives me a direction> I will now go to the mechanic and help him narrow it down. Thanks
