My 2009 Jeep Wrangler will not turn over when I turn the ignition key on to start the car. Drove it to work this morning and it was fine. Went out to leave for lunch and the starter does not engage. All other electrical systems light up in the dash when the key is turned on...including the ac fan motor. Jeep has 18,000 miles on it. Do you think this may be the starter fuse or solenoid that needs to be replaced?

Hi, my name is XXXXX XXXXX the security indicator lit on the dash, when you try to start it? I will post a picture showing where the indicator is located below, it is number 22 in the picture,Tim
HI Tim...I take a walk to the parking lot to check the security indicator on the dash and be right back with you.
let me know,Tim
Tim...yes the security indicator light is coming on.
Tim....are you there?
I'm sorry, i was away from the computer for awhile, if the security indicator is on, then the computer is not reconizing the key, do you have a spare key to try in this?
What would cause the key to fail when it was working just fine? Will have to look for another key.
they can lose their programming, it is common, try a spare key, if it works, then have the other key reprogrammed, the dealer can do this, but we use mobile locksmiths to come to the car and reprogram them, they are cheaper then the dealer, and it saves a tow bill to the dealer, our local locksmith charges 70 to come to the vehicle and reprogram them,Tim
Tim...I tried a non programed key in the ignition vs the programed key. The non programed key continues to blink vs. the programed key does not...so I don't think its the key. What else could it be? Clarification...the security indicator light continues to blink with the non programmed key vs it does not continue to blink with the programmed key.
so with the original key, the light does not flash? it should either flash, meaning the computer does not reconize it, or it should come on for about 2 seconds and then shut off, if the computer reconizes it,Tim
the light comes on for 2 seconds then turns off
ok, then the immobilizer is working properly, this is most likely a bad starter, do you have a test light or a volt meter? we can check this?
I believe I have a volt meter or should i run to the parts store to get a test light...which would be easier and quicker?
either will work, you need to check the small wire at the starter, while cranking, there are 2 wires at the starter, one large and one small, the small wire is the one you want to check, if it has 12 volts, while cranking, then the starter is bad and will need to be replaced,Tim
Tim...was disappointed in response time (slow to respond) and first diagnosis...by asking is the security indicator light coming on? then after I tested an un programmed key asking if it is coming on turning off after two seconds. Question...are you a master technition on Jeep Wranglers? Seems to me someone very familar with this vehicle should have prior experience with this type of problem on this vehicle.
Your last reply was at 4:32, i responded at 4:36. I cant be any faster then that, yes i am a Master technician, did you check the small wire at the starter?
Tom....I had to have the car towed last night because it got so late. Was trying to get the problem esolved earlier in the day but it took to long. I will be out of town for a few days for the holiday. My question...are you a master tech on jeep?
Yes
TIM,Diagnosis did not help me at all. I had to have the car towed.
