Customer Question

My Commander 3.0 CRD won't change gears using the - + selector.
The gearbox itself is working as smooth as ever, but I can't select gears manually.

It worked yesterday and today again for about 200km of driving, and suddenly, nothing again.

I had it on an OBD scanner, but no faults.

Please help, as I need this to function for off road use, this coming weekend.

Thanks

MoparHeat :

Thank you for choosing Just Answer for your inquiry. My name is XXXXX XXX I will be assisting you. There may be an issue with the switches inside of the Electronic Shift Mechanism. The only way to verify is with a dealer scantool to monitor whether or not the ESM is seeing your shift requests when the system is inoperable. This isn't a common or "known" issue and will be hard to verify the issue without the proper tools and knowledge of the vehicle's systems.

So there is nothing I can do except take it to a dealer, which I really do not want to do.

Where is this ESM situated? Seeing that it actually worked yesterday for a while, could it be a wire or connection I could check or clean or something?

The ESM is attached to the shifter assembly. Please hold for some information on removing and inspecting the ESM. Having slight internet issues at the moment.....

Ok so you will need to remove the chrome ring around the shifter, then removed the bezel that is around the shifter. They both are just clipped in and will pop up when prying up on them. Then you may be able to access the wiring at rear of ESM which is the top part of the shifter assembly. if you cannot access it from there you will need to remove the center console which I can help you through also if needed.
