I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7L v8 4wheel drive.

I have a 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited 4.7L v8 4wheel drive. I have 2 check engine codes ( P1495 and P1596). The truck runs very rough and slow. It won't go over 15 miles per hour and I lose speed going up a hill. Black smoke is coming from the exhaust pipe. It idles rough. No fuses are blown. What causes this problem and where are the Leak Detection Pump and the EVAP canister located on this truck.

The LDP is located in the left/front corner of engine compartment below air cleaner housing. graphic


The EVAP canister is located in the engine compartment near the brake power booster.

you didn't tell me why my truck runs rough and won't accelerate past 15 miles per hour. Nor did you address the 2 check engine codes.

i would check for catylitic converter damage and check fuel pressure likley the issue is one of the 2


SYMPTOM
P1596-SPEED CONTROL SWITCH ALWAYS HIGH

WHEN MONITORED
With the ignition key on.

SET CONDITION
An open circuit is detected in the speed control on/off switch circuit. The circuit must be above 4.8 volts for more than 2 minutes to set the DTC.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Speed control switch ground circuit open clockspring to S/C switch
  • Speed control switch ground circuit open PCM to clockspring
  • Clockspring Signal/Ground circuit open
  • S/C wiring harness observable defect
  • Speed control on/off switch defective
  • Speed control sw sig ckt open PCM to clock spring
  • Speed control sw sig ckt open clockspring to S/C switch
  • Speed control switch signal ckt shorted to voltage
  • Powertrain control module defective

SYMPTOM
P1495-LEAK DETECTION PUMP SOLENOID CIRCUIT

WHEN MONITORED
Ignition on and battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts .

SET CONDITION
The state of the solenoid circuit does not match the PCM's desired state.

POSSIBLE CAUSES

  • Fused ignition switch output circuit open
  • LDP solenoid control circuit short to ground
  • Leak detection pump defective
  • Leak detection pump solenoid control circuit open
  • Powertrain control module defective
  • DTC not equal to freeze frame DTC.
  • LDP solenoid circuit wiring harness observable defect
  • LDP solenoid ckt wiring harness intermittent defective
