have a 2001 jeep grand cherokee that keeps going into shut down mode.
Optional Information: Year : 2001Make : JeepModel : grand cherokeeEngine : 4.0 Already Tried: We have replaced body control module, PCM and tried to replace skim module but it would not communicate with pcm according to jeep tech. this truck has never been stolen and has been running fine for two years with no problems
Does the key program to the skim module?
yes, the problem started when the jeep went into lock down mode, scanned it with genisis it gave 1686 and 1687 code. the windows dash instruments would not work. that when we replaced bcm. Then we bought a new skim module and carried to jeep to have it installed and reprogrammed. they told us that they tried to program it but pcm would not accept vin#. We bought new pcm already fashed installed it and jeep cranked and ran fine. Drove it home it set over night next morning it would not crank. Scanned it and it has 1686 code.
If the skim has been replaced and the pcm then there is either a open wire or too much resistance in a wire between the skim and the pcm as it is the only thing left!
Do you have an ohm meter to check resistance with?
we have a new skim but it has not been replaced with new pcm. we tried to replace it but jeep tech said the old pcm would not accept the new skim. do u think we need to replace the skim.
Yes I would replace the skim

one more question can u replace skim module without having reprogramed by jeep or is there a procedure for reprograming pcm without carrying it to jeep.
It will need to be programed by Jeep as a scan tool is needed to program it.
