2002 Jeep Liberty - not cranking, anti theft issue can not seem to find solution

What happened to cause the problem was the battery just replaced? Will the engine spin over and not start or do you just get a no responce? is the alarm going off and the light on the dash blinking?

the battery has not been replaced. The engine spins over and does not start, not alarm going off or blinking lights

the code came up anti-theft,the car starts and runs for about a second then shuts seems like it is out of gas.but the code came up 1686-anti-theft

What has happened is that you key has gone bad or the reciver is not reading it.If you have another key you need to lock the doors with the power door lock switch and close the doors wait about 2 mins and then use the other key to unlock the door and then try and start it.
