2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee: CRD keeps going..top gear..temperature

Customer Question

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2.7 CRD keeps going into safe mode and will not change up into top gear. This is happening when car is cold and is up to temperature. ATF was changed at major service 9 months (10,000 Miles ago) Any suggestions ?

Check engine light comes on when ignition is switched on. I await the glow plug light to go out, before starting and by this time engine check light has normally gone out also.

 

Sometimes the enginer check light does not go out.

 

If you then drive (in safe mode) await normal running temperature. Stop. Turn off, and re-start, then normal service is resumed.

 

It appears to do this more in Cold Damp conditions, rather than cold dry conditions.

That is where to focus is on the dheck engine light(cel) It has come on because the computer has seen bad data that is outside of normal. Can you get to a parts store that offers code reading? That would be very helpful in further diagnosis?
