how do I replace the fuel pump on a 2001 Jeep cherokee

Lets do a simple check- turn the ignition key to the on position - you should hear the fuel pump energize for 2-3 seconds(humming sound). sometimes easier to hear with the fuel cap off.

no humming sound. would still energize if the electronic control unit was bad

In the engine compartment is a power distribution box with relays. The fuel pump relay is located there. Try swapping it with the ac compressor relay:




Also, try swapping the ASD(autoshutdown) relay and the radiator fan relay
