JA: What year is your XJ8?
Customer: 2001
JA: Are you hoping to fix this yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: nothing....mechanics say gearbox wiring is like a telephone box and nobody in right mind would loom at it...lol
JA: Anything else you think the mechanic should know?
Customer: did get engine safe mode once after the gearbox, no tracs etc appeareed...diagnostics said 7 and 8 cylinder not firing...but mechanic said not the case as all were firing just fine

We're any fault codes stored in the Transmission Control Module? Did you see a gearbox over temp warning?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
what would the over temp warning be ?
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
no idea about fault codes...mechnic said diagnostic said 7 and 8 cylinder not firing

The over temp warning is usually caused by a failed temp sensor which is actually part of the internal harness. The cylinder 7 and 8 misfire can cause a restricted performance warning but not the gearbox fault. We need a compatible tool that can retrieve fault codes from the TCM. Let me know.
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
spoke to mechanic...he forgot to write down codes...normally does...but he said one had to do with injector wiring and something to do with circuit board ...they thought it might have something to do with the splicing in of the lpg wiring ???
Expert:  Richard replied 4 months ago.
OK those codes could be caused by the ignition coils on those cylinders but will not be the cause of the gearbox fault. We really need a code number for the transmission fault codes
Customer: replied 4 months ago.
ok....so will these still be on the TCM ..or would they have dissappeared when they reset it ? ive not had the engine management light come on again since...just the gearbox fault once
Expert:  Richard replied 4 months ago.
It will depend on the tool used to clear the faults. If it does not communicate with the TCM there still may be a code.
