Customer Question

Customer: Be right back...
JA: Thanks. Can you give me any more details about your issue?
Customer: Out of the blue, my Jaguar stype won't move out of park. I've done the quick fix mentioned, but I'm trying to access what caused the issue...

What year is your S type?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
2003
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Are you there??
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Ok see if the P on the shifter flashes red then stays on solid when you press the brake. IF it does then unfortunately the shifter assembly will need to be replaced.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
While the car is cranked, correct?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
When the car is cranked, brake pressed, there is NO LIGHT on the P...
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Do it with the ignition in the ON position not cranking.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ignition in the ON position, no flashing or solid lights on the P

Ok then we will need to replace the shifter.

Gotcha; one more question. The car takes an "excessively" long time to "warm up". The jaguar "shakes" when it is first cranked in colder weather. Could it be that when the ignition coils were changed, the wrong spark plugs were used??
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

It could be a bad coil causing the rough running and also in the V6 engines I see issues with the intake seals causing vacuum leaks. If the vehicle coolant temp seems to stay cold then I suspect a bad thermostat.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Will the bad thermostat show up on a diagnostic machine?
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Sometimes it can.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok, so the spark plugs would have no bearing upon the "startup"??
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

They do but usually they will also cause a misfire while driving.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Understand...will that show up on a diagnostic tool...
Expert:  Richard replied 1 year ago.

Yes there can be misfire faults stored but that could also be caused by vacuum leaks.
