Customer: replied 2 years ago.
2004 x type 2.5
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I think its a relay, because the arm switch on the steering wheel does not turn them on or off
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok yes if you just turn the parking lights on the small inner bulb will turn on and will also come on when the headlights are on. This is working properly.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
How do I turn the headlights on without the high beams.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
everytime I turn the headlights on the high beams are on again
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
By moving the turn signal stalk in towards you will turn off the high beams. The switch may be faulty if in fact the high beams are stuck on.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Yes, is that a relay?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Where is the switch?
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
The switch is the actual turn signal switch that you move towards you. I will send over the relay info.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Thank you
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
No problem. I will send it over when I get back into the shop.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
relay info?? Thanks
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Relay R1 and fuses 1 and 4 in the engine fuse box.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Thanks, ***** ***** the fuses and now highs are always on. Won't turn off. If i replace the relay should that fix this?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
You have been helpful. Thanks
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Remove the relay and see if the lights go out.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Yes, they all go out.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok we need to perform some tests with a digital multimeter. We should try another relay but it has to be a 5 pin change over relay.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I have a new relay coming today
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok. Let me know. I will also send over some tests we can do with a digital multimeter.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Ok. Thanks
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Ok, Thanks, send the tests over

With the relay removed see if the blue high beam indicator is on the cluster
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
With the relay removed no blue indicator on cluster
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
With the relay back in does that indicator go on and off when you flash the high beams.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
No, it stays on always
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok see if the front fog lights work. If not then lets try a new relay
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
No fog lights working
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok we should try the relay.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
I pick it up in 30 minutes
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Ok.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
New relay didnt work
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Does the high beam indicator turn on and off with the switch or does it stay on
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Stays on
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Could be the stem.
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
Remove the steering column covers and disconnect the switch connector.
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
Then what?
Customer: replied 2 years ago.
does it need a new system or switch?
Expert:  Richard replied 2 years ago.
If they turn off then yes it is most likely the switch.
