Jaguar xj8: Left sunroof open; rained heavily; engine starts

This answer was rated:

Left sunroof open; rained heavily; engine starts but will not come out of park; have lots of fault messages on display
Hello and welcome to

We most likely have a problem with the shifter since it would have gotten wet when the roof was left open. In most cases the shifter assembly will need to be replaced when this happens. We can try to remove the shifter and see how much water has gotten into it but again in most cases it will need to be replaced.
