My 2003 Jaguar XK8 is slow to downshift. Using sport mode doesn't seem to make any difference. I had the transmission reprogrammed about 2 years ago to correct a "clunking" problem when I slowed sharply and then accelerated. This happened mostly in stop/go traffic. I understand this problem was common on S-types, but the reprogramming cured my car, too. Please note that my car is a very early 03, manufactured in October of 02. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and welcome to justanswer.comWhen do you feel this slow to down shift problem? Has the gear box fault warning ever come on?
I feel it mostly on the highway, trying to downshift to pass. It does downshift, put you have to put the gas pedal 1/2 way to the floor. No warning lights or messages.
Ok if sport mode does not seem to resolve the problem then I think you most likely need to have the TCM adaptations cleared and the module reprogrammed like you had to do a couple of years ago. The TCM will learn driving habits and adjust the shifts accordingly but when these adaptions become corrupt the system will need to be reset.
