I have a Jaguar question for Richard.
Hello and welcome back to justanswer.comDoes the engine run hot? Do the fans stay on even after the vehicle is turned off?
Hi Richard,
Nice to hear from you again. I believe the answer to both your questions is no. But, I will check tonight to be sure and get back to you. Can I get back into this and reply again? Thanks.
Doug
Yes just come back to this post and reply back.
Good morning Richard. When I got home last night it was around 90 deg here in northern NJ. My wife had driven the care home, about a XX XXX XXXXX, so it was thouroghly heated up. I started it up and the low coolan message came on, so I added some coolant and the message went away. AC was off. I noticed that there was no pressure in the reservoir when I removed the cap. Let the car sit and idle for about 20 minutes. The temp guage was normal, in the middle. Shut it off and the fans turned off immediately and did not come back on. I checked the cap again and there was no pressure. Looked under the car and still not a drop of any liquid on the ground, or any odor of coolant. Smelled the exhaust on both sides and no odor of coolant. I recently changed the oil and filter and there was no water/coolant in the oil. Does this help narrow it down? Ideas? Thanks Richard.
I recommend we have the system pressure tested just in case there is a small leak. Sometimes the thermostat housings leak and the coolant will pool up under the intake making it hard to see. I also recommend performing a cylinder head leak test. There is a leak detector you can purchase from your local parts store which will detect the presence of exhaust gases in the coolant.
